53 Matchboxes is a personal project of mine that captures purchased matchboxes and books left behind by an unknown person. The photographic study presents the unique design of each box and traces the original locations of them, mapping out the journeys that the original collector made. The identity of this person and the exact nature of these journeys remains a mystery, along with the attraction to each destination and matchbox. Some of these places no longer exist and their new names are recorded alongside the featured box. You are encouraged to explore these and are invited to speculate, wonder and entertain your curiosity, as you gaze upon the fading objects.
This is a tribute to the unknown collector, their journeys and passion for matchboxes.
