A Life Less Ordinary

To see things in colour is to appreciate the world as the human eye sees it. Not only does colour signify and denote, it also creates connotations that reflect a common visual language that tells a story about the world and all that is within it. To accentuate colour encourages viewers to stop and take note, as the subject matter appears exaggerated and less ordinary. In contrast to the neutral hues that often appear within man-made landscapes, colours from nature appeal to our humanistic tendencies and connect us with our natural environments. This has a positive effect on our mental wellbeing and allows us to lose ourselves within the beauty of the world.

Andrea Rosemercy is a photographer that demonstrates how the composition of colour does this, by combining textured subject matter with carefully considered coloured elements. Her work explores distinct areas: the use of colour, the visualisation of emotions to generate ideas and the exploration of composition. Unplugged is a project that demonstrates this, by featuring palettes that compliment and enhance content. Consequently, the series of images evoke familiar feelings associated with desirability that are relatable and joyful to view.
